This year, BSC MUN conducted interviews early on in the Michaelmas Term and selected a Delegation of 20 delegates and 5 administrative staff members.
Our Office Bearers Avantha Jayasinghe, Saskia Wijeywardene, and Saanya Subasinghe did an astounding job of mentoring our Delegation, as well as training our Year 12 students to help with Training Sessions and workshops which they held throughout the course of the Michaelmas and Lent Terms.
Avantha in particular went out of his way to ensure that every delegate was well-researched, and that every aspect of the preparation for Conference was handled with meticulous precision and immense care, and Saskia took it upon herself to work with our Student Co-Ordinator, Chanya Gajanaike, to co-ordinate the Community Service project.
BSC MUN has never had this many members of our Society being selected into the EXCO for COMUN, and we are also so incredibly proud of the stellar job done by Janek De Silva, Husein Esufally, Harini Srinivasan, Saanya Subasinghe and Mandri Amarasekera at the COMUN Conference itself, and the grace and class with which they conducted themselves was a testament to the Society itself.
It is my absolute pleasure to report that the Closing Ceremony held on the 11th of March, 2018, held so many wonderful moments for Team BSC and the entire MUN delegation that represented school.
Individual Awards and spectacular performances included:
· Yenuli Siribaddana - Best Foreign Policy Statement Award in GA 4
· Nikita Advani - Honorary Mention Award as best administrative staff member at conference
And our EXCO held the following positions:
· Deputy Head of Administration – Mandri
· Deputy Head of Logistics – Harini
· Deputy Head of Operations - Saanya
· Vice Chair GA 3 – Janek
· Chair GA 4 - Husein
Apart from our two awards and five executive committee members, there was one, most sought after, overall school award for Community Service, one which Avantha, Saskia, Chanya and Mandri in particular worked tireless nights to pack countless supplies for.
Chanya Gajanaike led our Delegation to organise Bake Sales and coordinated with Saskia, Mandri and Avantha to pack 106 schools bags with supplies which would benefit so many children in the northern areas of Sri Lanka. Fazmy Feroz in the Sixth Form, despite not being a part of the MUN
Society, helped Avantha purchase all items and transport them to school on Thursday night while Saskia, Mandri and Chanya packed them during early mornings this past week.
We were disappointed last year when we missed out in this award, but this year, because of our students' determination, and tireless perseverance, #TeamBSC emerged WINNERS!
BSC beat out all other schools and had made the most significant contribution, thereby raising the only school trophy to be won at Conference this year! It is pertinent to note that no other school except CIS has ever won this award in past years, and this year, BSC broke that record, while actually giving back to the Community we live in, which I think is personally the biggest victory of all.
To say I'm proud of them would be an understatement.
BSC MUN now looks forward to a productive Summer Term during which they will be preparing for NYMUN which will take place over the Summer holiday.
My sincerest Congratulations to Avantha, Saskia and Chanya in particular for the unending commitment that they showed to the Society this year, and for being poster-children for the saying: “hard work, works.”
