A wonderful preview of the Senior School’s production of Cole Porter’s timeless musical ‘Anything Goes’ began our week as our cast and crew shared a taster of the show in Monday morning’s Assembly. A bright and lively start indeed!

As the week progressed, our cast and crew members worked hard in their final rehearsals to prepare for opening night on Thursday. ‘Anything Goes’ ran on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening and was an absolute delight to behold! A fantastic and set transformed our Auditorium as we were taken back to the ocean liners of the 1930s aboard the SS American. An outstanding performance was marked by Porter’s timeless songs, wonderful comedy and accomplished dance. I sincerely congratulate our cast and crew as they add another title to BSC’s proud heritage of outstanding performance. I know that I speak for every member of the audience when I say we really did ‘get a kick out of you’! I must particularly thank our Director Mr Shane and our Musical Director, Ms Shamistha whose combined vision, skill and determination made the show a reality. I also thank the many staff and parent volunteers who supported the show is numerous ways. You support is greatly appreciated.

With appreciation in mind, I would also like to thank the PTA Committee who organised Vision Care practitioners to be present at school on Monday and Tuesday, allowing an opportunity for optical examinations for all members of the school community. This wonderful opportunity was, I know, most appreciated by all of us. Thank you to our tireless PTA!

Wednesday evening saw the Final Round of the Young Speaker Competition 2018, organised by the British School in collaboration with Adventus Education. The concluding round of this year’s competition was held at the Kingsbury Hotel. It was a pleasure to support Harini Srinivasan (Year 12) who secured a well-deserved place in the prestigious Final Round in competition with young orators from sixteen schools. I must also thank Anjuni Wijeweera (Year 11) and Maya Aluwihare (Year 8) who literally amazed the crowd with four outstanding vocal performances!

I must also congratulate our Cricket Coach, Mr Aruna and our Cricketing Lions who emerged Tournament Champions of the Inter International Schools Cricket Tournament. This is an incredible achievement for the boys and a tribute to their skill and determination.

As the public examination season approaches, I remind all students in Year 11 and Year 13 that they must be engaged in a productive and purposeful schedule of revision, consolidation and examination practice. I would also like to remind our examination candidates of the importance of full attendance at this very significant time in your examination preparation. I remind all parents that my team and I would be delighted to meet with you at any time should you have any questions or concerns about the impending IGCSE and A Level Examinations.

I hope you enjoy this edition of The Lion. Have a wonderful weekend.

With my best wishes,

Simon Harwood
