On Friday the 2nd of March 2018, the Commerce students of BSC had their annual charity project – The Apeksha Cancer Hospital project for the fourth consecutive year. The students had a number of fund raising activities throughout the year including a non-uniform day and a bake sale in order to gather funds for this event.

We used most of the funds to buy much needed cancer medicine which was in short supply. We also took balloons, toys and other gifts to distribute among the young cancer patients. Before starting the Play House Program, we visited the Director of the Cancer Hospital in order to donate the Cancer medicine.

The Play House program started off with our students welcoming each patient in to the auditorium with a smile and a coulorful balloon. This was followed by some quality entertainment provided by the BSC students. They sang and danced on stage, bringing much needed laughter and good cheer to the audience.

The second item in the program was an Art session. We delivered crayons and art books to the patients and helped them draw pictures. The kids immensely enjoyed this session. Many were doing their best to impress the BSC students with vividly colourful pictures of butterflies, sunsets and flowers.

The final item in the program was a ‘play session’. It was quite a moving and delightful experience to watch the little kids having so much fun with the brand new toy cars donated by our students. The ‘Play House program’ ended with all the young patients being rewarded with exciting gifts.

Our students left the Apeksha Hospital premises so much happier than when they arrived, as they knew that they had managed to bring some light, laughter and smiles to these young patients who are desperately fighting for their lives.
