The British School’s tremendous sportsmen and women must be congratulated for a very successful weekend of activity and endeavour last weekend as they represented their school at two prestigious events. Our swimmers participated in the Novices events at Sugathadasa Pool, while our athletes participated in the annual International Schools Athletic Competition (ISAC) at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium. It is a pleasure to report many successes and even some new records being made! I am very proud of our competitors and I must thank Mr Mark and his team for ensuring that our students are given the fantastic opportunity to develop and showcase their skills in competition.
It was also a pleasure to welcome our intrepid Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Participants back to school on Monday morning having successfully completed one of the many expeditions that make up part of this challenging and rewarding programme. Well done to you all!
Monday saw the much anticipated start of the annual Maths Week organised by the Maths Department. I am delighted that so many students were able to enjoy the range of practical and academic activities organised by the Maths Department this year in a very busy programme indeed! Activities took place throughout each day in a range of assemblies, presentations, competitions and quizzes. The Maths Exhibition was a wonderful demonstration and celebration of students’ learning and appreciation of mathematical concepts in a range of exhibits presented by mathematicians in all Key Stages. This was a very memorable week and I must thank Mr Jins and his team as well as all of our participants for sharing their passion for all things mathematical. We are all looking forward to next year’s event already!
The start of the week saw Newton, Nobel, Scott and Shakespeare Houses do battle on the football pitch in the annual Inter-Hose Football Competition. It is always inspirational to see our tireless students determined to do their very best for their respective Houses. Well done to all of our Houses for a competition that was once again characterised by skill, determination and true BSC sportsmanship. I Must thank Ms Champika, our Head of Houses as well as our Teachers-In-Charge for supporting another ever-popular event in our schedule of House Competitions.
It has been a very busy week indeed! I am most grateful to our tireless staff and students for making another week so very productive and memorable!
I hope you enjoy this edition of The Lion! Have a wonderful weekend.
With best wishes,
Simon Harwood
Deputy Principal (Head of Senior School)
