BRONZE AWARD SETS OFF ON THEIR QUALIFYING JOURNEY…

General Senior

Our first batch of Bronze students for the academic year 2017-2018 embarked on their qualifying journey last weekend (17th and 18th February) to Neluwa, Sinharaja. Arriving at school by 5am and setting off with all bags packed, students were eager to begin their journey that would make life time memories.

Energy levels soared on the first day with the witnessing five waterfalls (diverse in many different aspects) being the highlight of the day. Back at camp, coming together as a team to collate all data gathered during the journey to set on the arduous task of completing the route card was next. Thought provoking conversation were a key observation and it was indeed fascinating to observe our young students challenge each other’s thoughts and reaching a census to complete the task.

The next day’s challenge was yet another hike. Each team worked according to the individual’s strengths and challenges and on this note, it was wonderful to see the students empathizing with each other and supporting each one as challenges were in abundance.

Many pictures were taken during the journey for their focus project and scheduled presentation for 6th March. The pictures truly capture the wonders of nature… One such picture is the cover picture of this article.

The standard of our Bronze students has been of a very high standard; students stepping out of their comfort zones. Being trained and prepared to be competent to take on the role of a navigator, pace counter, scout, time keeper and leader in a team are skills that will truly serve students well in their stride.

We wish our next batch of Bronze students the very best of luck as they set off on their journeys on 24th and 25th February!
