In the spirit of true innovation, our Cricketing Lions mage history on the weekend in the inaugural Annual Cricket Encounter against Stafford International School. Taking place at the prestigious Premadasa Stadium, our Lions played where many other cricketing legends have played before them. I am delighted that Mr Aruna and his team have established what I hope will be a permanent fixture in our sporting calendar as our Lions continue to go from strength to strength!

With success firmly in mind, I must pay tribute to our tireless Debating Teams who completed the debating competition hosted by Stafford International School this weekend. Our debaters have had a tremendously successful season. Team A reached the Octo-Finals of the expert Category and were ranked fourth out of sixteen teams overall. Team B did outstandingly well, ranking in first place in the Novice breaks and going on to defeat Musaeus College in the Semi Final to emerge Runners-Up overall in their category. This is an outstanding achievement! I congratulate both teams for representing the British School with such skill and determination!

It was a pleasure to welcome parents and students to the Lent Term Parent-Teacher Conferences on Tuesday and Wednesday. These are always a very important opportunity for staff, students and parents to discuss particular targets for future development. These meetings are particularly significant, of course, for our Year 11 and Year 13 students who are looking forward to their Public Examinations in June. It is also an important tine for students in Year 9 and Year 11 as they finalise their subject options for the next academic year to begin their IGCSE and A Level courses. I remind all parents that my team and I would be delighted to provide any further support needed at this important time; please do not hesitate to contact us at school.

As further support to our Year 11 students as they finalise their A Level choices, I am delighted to confirm that a further programme of one-to-one support is in place to ensure that students are thinking carefully about their subject choices in line with their particular strengths and skills as well as their future aspirations in terms of higher education and employment.

As I write, I look forward to a splendid weekend of athletics at the annual ISAC event at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium. I am always humbled by the skill and determination of our athletes who are such wonderful ambassadors for their school. I am grateful to Mr Mark and his team for ensuring that our athletes have this opportunity to compete once again and I wish all of our competitors every success.

I hope you enjoy this edition of The Lion! Have a wonderful weekend.

With best wishes,

Simon Harwood
