It is hard to believe that this edition of The Lion marks the half-way point of the Lent Term! The weeks seem to be flying by in that characteristic British School Way.

Last weekend was very busy for many of our sportsmen and women who were once again involved in a range of games and matches that actually involved some ‘international’ matches for our cricketing Lions!

Our Debaters continue a very positive season of competitions too. Both British School teams garnered outstanding success at the Stafford Debating Competition rounds last weekend, with Team A and Team B having both secured places in the Finals next weekend. BSC’s Team A are ranked fourth out of sixteen teams and BSC’s Team B are ranked first in the Novice Category. This is an outstanding achievement for our debaters. I wish you every success in next weekend’s finals.

Monday’s assembly was a timely reminder of the importance of thoughtful and positive use of the internet in Ms Jehan’s very important presentation that followed on from last week’s Internet Safety Day activities. The message was simple but very clear: that each of us is responsible for making the internet and all social media platforms safe and positive for ourselves and all users. In a world of innovation, we all understand the significance of the internet and social media, but this message of thoughtful and positive use of digital communication and the notion of digital well-being is one that we must not forget.

I remind all parents and students that if you have any concerns or worries about internet or social media use, please do contact us at school. We are available to help in any way possible.

Wednesday brought one on the highlights of the Inter-House Competition Calendar: the much-anticipated Inter-House Music Competition. This, I believe, like all of the other House Events, continues to get better and better each year. Wednesday’s programme was another outstanding success with individuals and groups demonstrating their skills and accomplishment as performers and musicians. I am extremely proud of you all for contributing your remarkable talents and for making Wednesday afternoon most memorable. I must thank Ms Shamistha and all of the House Teachers for their tireless support in the many weeks of preparation and practice. Thank you all!

This week has also seen our Interact Club and our MUN delegates involved in a range of charitable endeavours for various causes. I am always truly humbled by the very clear social awareness and compassion demonstrated by our students and all members of the British School community. I am grateful to you all once again that you have successfully supported a range of causes throughout the year with such success. You are inspirational!

So, another busy week in another busy and productive term. Well done to you all!

I hope you enjoy this edition of The Lion!

Best wishes,

Simon Harwood
