Charity and Our Community

Our community is the centre of a wider community in Sri Lanka, including various sports activities which form links to other schools and families.

The families of our students play a very important role in the school community and we view the partnership with parents as a powerful tool to support children’s knowledge and learning. In addition, we place a great deal of importance on making sure our parents feel welcome too, particularly as many of our families are living a long way from their home country. In the Junior School, there are established community projects involving Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital and ‘The Music Project’.

Our active Parent Teacher Association holds events throughout the year for the whole family.

Charity at the British School in Colombo

Since its inception, the British school in Colombo has taken its obligation to help the local, national and international community very seriously and we are proud of the internationally minded and compassionate individuals who make up our school community to in ongoing charitable endeavours.

The school has a long standing Interact Club that works to support a range of fund-raising activities in Colombo and island-wide. Likewise, our HOPE Society, founded by and led by our students has undertaken to help a range of worthy causes.

On a more informal basis, Key Stages hold regular fund-raising and sponsored events. Large scale public performances, non-uniform days, bake sales and fashion shows are just some of the initiatives that the young people of the British School community have carried out as a way to reach out to the local, national and international community.
