The Arts

Music, Dance and Drama

The Junior School has two specialist music rooms and two music teachers, with lessons taking place for all pupils weekly.

There are two Junior School choirs. One is a school choir which performs at school events, and in addition there is a performance choir which has extra practices to prepare for external events and competitions.

The Junior School has considerable strength in all three of these areas and follows an inclusive policy with all its creative arts productions, with all pupils across the year group having an opportunity to be involved in large scale productions.

There are two dance teachers in the Junior School. Pupils in Key Stage 1 follow a modern dance curriculum, whilst pupils in Key Stage 2 follow a curriculum which includes modern and traditional dance, including Kandyan dance.

Children in Key Stage 2 have drama  lessons which  focus on developing Character , Ensemble Performance, Gestures, Performance Skills, Stage Presence, Spatial Awareness and Voice Modulation.

The Junior School follows an inclusive policy with all its creative arts productions, with all pupils across the year group having an opportunity to be involved in large-scale productions.  In addition to class assemblies in Key Stages 1 and 2, all pupils in the Junior School have an opportunity to perform on stage at least once a year and interested pupils may join one of the many creative arts after-school activities to further develop their skills and interests in these areas.

Visual Arts

Two specialist art rooms in the Junior School enable all pupils to have designated art lessons each week, delivered by an art specialist teacher.  Pupils explore fine art work, the use of paint, pastels and crayon as well as 3D designing and modelling.  A very popular annual art and photographic exhibition are held at the school every year, to which all pupils are encouraged to contribute.
