The International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) is an international academic qualification administered by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). It is a two-year pre-university programme designed to promote international understanding within a context of intellectual rigour.

All students, irrespective of their interests, are required to follow six courses in a range of disciplines. Three of these must be at Higher Level (HL), the other three at Subsidiary/Standard Level (SL). The examined subjects must include two languages, one subject from Individuals and Societies, an Experimental Science, Mathematics,   and   one   option.

The languages of instruction are English, French and Spanish, and examination papers are all available in each of these languages. The six subjects are bound together in a coherent form by the Theory of Knowledge programme followed by all students, and by an Extended Essay which encourages research skills. All subject programmes are required to address international issues, eg world literature, history, economics and environmental systems, etc. A further requirement is that candidates be involved in the Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) programme which contributes to their humanitarian/international education.

Candidates for IB qualifications can only be entered by an authorised member school. The programme is a two-year course. There will be no examinations at the end of the Lower Sixth Year.
